This specification describes the requirements for steels utilized in automotive components, such as powertrain and driveline shafts and gears.

Applicability.

Steel bar stock, seamless tubing, or forgings utilized in the manufacture of shafts and gears. The intent of this specification is to define metallurgical requirements for the steel from which the finished parts are made. Finished part requirements, such as final heat treated properties, are described on the specification or part drawing.
